| The
Daily Show with John Stewart |
Despite
being a fake news show, it's probably the most reliable source of
news out there with even coverage and the ability to challenge all
sides of every issue. Great guests, great correspondent reports.
MONDAY—THURSDAY, 11pm E/P (typically reruns the next day at
10am & 7pm) |
| Slate |
Excellent
coverage via "opinion and commentary" of everything from
politics to movies to ads to books to the law. "Today's Papers"
section is a great cheat sheet on the top stories in the major dailies.
Updated all the time. |
| Anderson
Cooper 360° |
CNN
show hosted by the funny and hip, by CNN standards, anyway, Anderson
Cooper (host of the good
Mole). It's the same major news stories of the day only . . .
faster, with pop culture thrown in. Also features some interesting
special reports and more fun guests than the standard fare.
MONDAY—FRIDAY,
7pm E/4pm P |
| TIME |
Quality mainstream
weekly newsmagazine with good coverage of national events and issues.
Published weekly. |
| The
San Francisco Chronicle |
Pretty comprehensive
local newspaper. Better for San Francisco coverage than other parts
of the Bay Area, but they aren't ignored.
Published AM daily. |
| Newsweek |
The ying
to Time's yang, pretty much. Same coverage--I can't count the number
of times they've had the exact same person on the cover in the same
week.
Published weekly. |
| The
Onion |
Okay,
so this is really more of that fake news stuff, but the Onion does
a great job mocking the way news is covered and news stories and sometimes
just coming up with headlines
you wish were true.*
Updated weekly. |
| The
Oakland Tribune |
Not
the greatest paper in the world (especially after it's absorption
into the Alameda Newspaper Group), but it does cover Oakland news
to a greater extent than any other major paper.
Published AM daily. |
| The
Berkeley Daily Planet |
Relatively
new Berkeley paper with a truly local emphasis and flair. |
